What is an Open Studio Tour?
Share
An open studio tour is an opportunity to visit the creative spaces of local artists, learn about their techniques, and purchase artwork directly from their studios. This is a great way to connect with artists one-on-one and bring home some creative inspiration or a favorite piece of art.
Tours are self-guided, which means you can choose which studios to visit and explore at your own pace. Maps and signs will direct you to each location. Some artwork may be shown inside home studios, in garages, or even outside.
Do I need tickets?
No, you don't need tickets. Just mark your calendar and browse the artist listings ahead of time. You may want to plan ahead for travel, accommodations, or lunch stops if you are making a day or weekend of it.
How many artists participate?
It varies—some tours feature 10 artists, others up to 60. Sometimes multiple artists share a space for the event, showing a diverse array of artwork in one place.
What is the schedule like?
Studio hours are listed in brochures and on event websites. Otherwise, there is no fixed schedule—you are free to make your own plans within the posted hours.
Can I buy art during the tour?
Yes! Purchasing artwork is a wonderful way to support the artists and bring something unique into your home.
Can I ask the artists questions?
Yes, questions are encouraged! Many artists offer demonstrations or a display to share how they create their work. They welcome conversations about their practice and creative journey.
