LA Textile Show Insights: Color Trends and Styles for 2026 and Beyond

I recently returned from a vibrant trip to Los Angeles, where I attended the L.A. Textile Show with a close friend who’s a fashion designer. On the showcase floor, fabric designers and trend setters from all over the world presented their latest textiles and designs.

As an artist, it was inspiring to see the abundance of colors, patterns, and textures in their work. Truly, the sky is the limit! For fashion designers, the challenge is to narrow their focus and select just a small assortment of fabrics to create their next collection.

The show featured a variety of seminars, but I was especially drawn to the one reviewing upcoming color and design trends for the year ahead.

Color Trends

Colors were grouped into several different categories for the 2026-2027 seasons:

Landmark colors — These reflect the mood and values of the time, including natural beiges, twilight greys (a purple-grey tone) and supreme burgundy — a rich wine color.

Surprise colors —  Surprise colors include bright greens, intense reds, and bold oranges evoking the spirit of the 60's and 70's. In the coming year, there will be a focus on bringing some eccentricity to the world, moving away from the trend of quiet luxury.

Altruistic colors — These colors channel wellness energy, with cool pinks, warm oranges, and soft greens creating a calming palette.

Design Themes

Fashion for 2026–2027 will explore a range of themes:

Tribal — This is about a return to earthy roots and ancestral themes, with an emphasis on furs and natural materials. Colors include deep reds, rich browns, bronze, and gold.

Nexus  — This trend features a blend of science and technology with a spiritual tilt. This theme nods to 1960's futurism and futuristic comfort. Colors include shimmering light blues, pinks and silvers.

Pomp — Inspired by the bygone eras of the 60's and 70's, this style includes intense oranges and reds, smoky and minty greens, and cozy burgundy.

Anomaly — Quirky innovation is the focus of this theme, with surprising pops of bright blue and yellow along with colors from the pomp theme.

Fashion and style in the coming year will take us in many different directions. It’s truly up to each individual to decide what style resonates with them.

Personally, I’m drawn to the tribal theme—perhaps influenced by my degree in cultural anthropology. You’ll see touches of that influence show up in my artwork next year, along with some accents of burgundy.

Inspiration can come from so many places. Which style or color calls to you?
