Easing into Fall - Simple Ways to Embrace the Seasonal Shift
Share
As one season transitions to the next, it can be stressful to move from summer days to the hustle and routine of fall. The change can feel dramatic, but we can move into it more easily by implementing a few gentle routines that help our bodies and minds adapt.
Fall brings a change in weather, routines, and even wake up times! It's worth considering how to make that transition more smoothly. Ayurvedic wisdom suggests (as much as possible) to shift routines gently over several weeks to help your body adapt to the new season.
Instead of thinking about what you are missing as you say goodbye to summer, consider what you can add to your life to enjoy the new season.
Here are some ideas:
-
Enjoy something pumpkin flavored
Pumpkin spice lattes may be everywhere, but if you're not a fan, try baking pumpkin bread or pumpkin muffins—my personal favorite! It not about following the trend, it's more about adding in some comfort.
-
Refresh your home with a fall scent
Buy a new candle or use a diffuser to bring in a fresh scent. Eucalyptus essential oil helps cleanse the air, while cinnamon gives the home a cozy feel.
-
Buy some school supplies—for yourself
While shopping for your kids, add in some notebooks and favorite pens for yourself. A fresh start isn't just for students—we can all embrace the seasonal reset. I love using spiral notebooks for organizing my day and journaling.
-
Get a stack of books
Whether you are a seasoned reader or you just want to start up the habit again, getting some new books can spark your creative spirit and help you look forward to the cozy season. Ask friends for recommendations or browse a local bookstore for ideas.
-
Go for a walk
Before it gets chilly and extra layers are required, get out for a walk to enjoy the cooling air as the leaves start to turn. Bonus if you go with a friend—combining social time with exercise!
-
Plan something to look forward to
Schedule a dinner with friends, a hike to see the fall leaves, or an outing to a fall art festival. Having something to look forward to on your calendar builds anticipation, boosts mood, and helps you enjoy the current season.
